Here are some helpful hints and tips to find a succesful match!

  • First of all, decide if you want a pure breed or mixed breed dog. Some of the best dogs are from the animal shelter. If you decide you want a pure breed dog be sure to research that breed's faults very closely. Choose a breeder that has a good reputation and breeds those faults out of their dogs. Inbred dogs are the worst you can get.

  • Look at your schedule. Do you have time for a dog? Maybe you have time for a smaller breed that doesn't need an hour long walk but is that what you really want? Waiting for the right time is crucial or you'll wind up with an unhappy dog who is so excited for the next time he gets to go outside that he pulls you aroung once you get there!

  • Be sure to determine your type of personality. If you are quiet and shy don't choose a large, dominating breed who constantly tries to be the Alpha dog. You'll get in big trouble and you won't have as much fun with your dog as you thought!

  • Where do you live? Does your apartment allow dogs? Check. The breed of dog you choose in your apartment is a big deal. A lab or a border collie will probably not make it, not to mention they get to be really large. Don't get a dog that you know will be too big because apartments in College Station WILL make you get rid of them.

A good dog never dies he always stays he walks besides you on crisp autumn days when frost is on the fields and winter's drawing near, his head is within our hand in his old way.
